Second SALW destruction event in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2019

December 2, 2019

On 30 November, 1,379 pieces of small arms and light weapons (SALW) and components were destroyed in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), at the Jelšingrad smelter facility in Banja Luka. The action, in which several police agencies took part, was coordinated by the SALW Coordination Board of BiH and was supported by UNDP BiH with the aim to increase security and minimize the risk of arms proliferation.

The event was organised under the framework of EU Council Decision (CFSP) 2016/2356 implemented by UNDP SEESAC and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Promote peaceful, just and inclusive societies and its target 16.4 that includes a significant reduction in illicit arms flows by 2030.
