Training on the usage of Disaster Risk Analysis System (DRAS) was held for the representatives of five Local Self-Government Units

October 23, 2018

DRAS training held for representatives of Maglaj, Brčko Distrikt, Lukavac, Zvornik and Laktaši.

After successful completion of the Disaster Risk Analysis System (DRAS) testing phase in Doboj and Tuzla, the DRAS will soon be available in five additional Local Self-Government Units thanks to the support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation within the „Interlinking Disaster Risk Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (IDRM) Project implemented by UNDP.

Training was provided for 18 municipal employees of Maglaj, Brčko District, Lukavac, Zvornik and Laktaši for the purpose of institutionalization of DRAS at the new locations. The participants were taught how to use the DRAS and its functionalities.

„DRAS is an innovation tool that enables uninterrupted access for decision makers and citizens to scientific data on risks of floods, landslides, earthquakes, and mine-suspected areas, aiming at increasing awareness of disaster risks at specific localities” said Aida Hadzic-Hurem, IDRM Project Manager.

DRAS is composed of three modules – module 1 is available to public, and modules 2 and 3 are available to local governments only, in accordance with the user rights. The system can be accessed via link http://dras.undp.ba/

Given that DRAS focuses on increasing Disaster Risk Prevention and Management as multi-disciplinary activity, representatives from various institutions and departments were also present – from spatial planning and utility services, to civil protection and development sectors.

In the upcoming period the UNDP together with IDRM Project partnering Local Self-Government Units will organized a promotion of DRAS towards citizens, to inform them about disaster risks in their areas and how to improve risk assessments by using DRAS.
