Final Conference of UN programme Youth Employability and Retention

Final Conference of UN programme Youth Employability and Retention (YERP) which was implemented in the past  3,5 years and financed from the funds of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, through the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F), was held in UN House in Sarajevo on 19th of June 2013.

Conference started with opening speeches of Mr. Yuri Afanasiev, UN Resident Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mr. Toribio de Prado PĂ©rez, Deputy Ambassador of Kingdom of Spain in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Project lasted for 3.5 years and implemented activities valued over 6,800,000 USD (including parallel funding from employment institutions) and achieved exceptional results.

During the Conference, Youth Employability and Retention Programme presented main results and activities implemented in the previous three and a half years as following:

 1.   Increased capacities of the education system and local communities to improve youth employability
- Increased capacities of 50 primary and 50 secondary schools for delivering gender sensitive education programs based on life skills, professional orientation and career development cooperation with private sector
- Strengthened capacities of 100 local communities in 17 municipalities to develop data bases on pupils drop, prepared plans to prevent this and to improve their employability  

2. Enhanced capacities of the Public Employment Services and Civil Society to develop and deliver an integrated package of youth employability measures
- Established 17 CISO, provided services to over 49,000 young people out of which over 4000 were employed,
- Provided individual counseling to over 8500 young people and professional orientation for over 28.000 children in elementary and secondary schools,
Developed Situation analyses for youth employment schemes in FBiH and RS.

3.    Positive impact of youth migration maximized whilst impact of irregular migrations minimized Developed Methodology of migration statistics and Strategy with action plan for monitoring of migrations in BiH in accordance to EUROSTAT.
- Piloted circular labor migration schemes with Germany (12 nurses employed)
- Supported 31 young returnees from diaspora to develop own businesses
- Over 10.000 young people received information about risks of irregular migrations.
