    Armed Violence Prevention Programme: Exploring the application of ISACS through a software tool

    Illicit trade, uncontrolled proliferation and misuse of small arms and light weapons are key drivers of armed violence in conflict, post-conflict, and other fragile settings. Every year, approximately 740,000 people die as a direct or indirect consequence of armed violence, at an opportunity cost to the global economy of approximately USD 400 billion, posing enormous burden of States, communities and individual human beings.

    Better Planning Systems in BiH Entities

    Policy discussions related to harmonization of the development planning systems in both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) that were launched in late 2012 with the support of the Integrated Local Development Project gained speed and came to concrete results. In the past months, representatives from more than 50 institutions engaged in consultative discussions and agreed on the vision, key elements, institutional responsibilities and coordination mechanisms in the future consolidated strategic planning frameworks in each BiH entity.

    Food control In Line With the EU Standards

    “Clean Vrbas” Programme Begins

    UNDP’s “Clean Vrbas” programme officially started with the Kotor Varos town spring cleaning on Sunday, 14th of April 2013. UNDP provided cleaning equipment and materials: gloves, thrash bags, shovels and rakes for participants at several locations in the Kotor Varos town, halping them make it one of the cleanest and most decorated cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. UNDP implements “Clean Vrbas” programme with the financial support of Government of Japan and “Coca Cola” company.

    Lend Your Leg Campaign Ends

    Bosnia and Herzegovina without new landmine victims“ is the main message of the Day Against Mines, marked today at UN House in Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina still remains one of the most mine contaminated countries in South East Europe with more than 14,000 mine locations. To date, there were 8,068 landmine victims in country. Portraits of 15 victims and their families are displayed in the UN House as a harsh reminder of the danger that is still present.

    Collection and Destruction of Illicit Weapons in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    There are large quantities of illicit weapons in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Those are threats to human security on the daily basis and are threats to regional stability. In order to address these risks a consultative meeting was held between the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska, the Ministry of Interior of Canton Sarajevo, the Ministry of Interior of Central Bosnia Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Zenica Doboj Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Bosnian Podrinje Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Canton 10, the Ministry of Interior of West Hercegovina Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Hercegovina Neretva Canton and the Police of Brcko District BiH as well as representatives of the international community. The meeting was organized by United Nations Development Programme.

    New Projects in Old Town Sarajevo Municipality

    Signing ceremony with civil society organizations for the implementation of activities in the territory of the Municipality of Old Town Sarajevo was organized on 27th March 2013, within framework of third phase of the UNDP Project Strengthening Local Democracy (LOD III), which is being implemented in 11 partner municipalities, organized. On that occasion, the guests were addressed by Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, municipal Mayor, Natalia Dianiskova, Head of Section for Operations, Social Development, Civil society and Cross-border cooperation of the EU Delegation in BiH, and Adela Pozder-Čengić, chief of the Division for Rural and Regional Development UNDP BiH.

    World TB Day

    In honor of an epochal discovery of Tuberculosis bacillus (TB), which was announced by German scientist Dr. Robert Koh on 24th March 1882, this date is celebrated throughout the World as a World TB Day. The discovery of TB bacillus marked the first step in the direction of diagnosis and treatment of Tuberculosis – the disease from which, at that time, every seventh inhabitant of our planet died.

    Opening of Reconstructed Laboratories for Diagnosis of Tuberculosis - National Tuberculosis Programme

    The opening of reconstructed laboratories for diagnosis of tuberculosis was held on March 12th, 2013 at 10:30 in four BH cities - Bihac, Foca, Travnik and Zenica. The reconstruction of the laboratories was implemented within the project “Strengthening of DOTS Strategy and Improving National Tuberculosis Programme, Including Multidrug Resistant and Infection Control, in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.

    Campaign “Lend Your Leg” in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    Marking the 14th anniversary since the Landmine Ban Convention has entered into force, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) has started again the campaign “Land Your Leg” aimed at solving the problem of landmines in the world. After the success of the campaign last year, organized in 74 countries worldwide, that highly contributed to the enforcement and univerzalisation of the Convention on Landmine Ban, we expect that also in this year many mine-affected countries will take part in this campaign.

    Cooperation on establishment of witness support offices at the Central Bosnia Canton formalized

    The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the representatives of the Cantonal Court in Novi Travnik, the Cantonal Prosecutor´s Office of Central Bosnia Canton, the Ministry of Justice and Administration of Central Bosnia Canton, the FBiH Ministry of Justice, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH and the United Nations Development Programme in BiH, held on February 6, 2013, marked the beginning of cooperation on establishment of witness support offices within judicial institutions in this canton.
