    Tuberculosis Control Ward Opened and Establishment of Oncology Ward in Travnik Announced

    The Cost Sharing Agreement on reconstruction of Oncology Ward in Travnik was signed by Tahir Lendo, Prime Minister of Central Bosnia Canton and Armin Sirčo, UNDP Senior Coordinator and Social Inclusion and Democratic Governance Sector Leader. The reconstruction will be financed by the Cantonal Government and implemented by the UNDP by the end of 2013, enabling establishment of the Oncology Ward.

    Social Good Summit 2013

    Help for those who need it most

    The Financing Agreement signed between the United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP) and 14 civil society organisations from the city of Banja Luka and municipalities of Tešanj, Višegrad and Novi Grad provides for the implementation of projects worth a total of about BAM 640,000, which will address specific issues in the areas of assistance for people with special needs, care for the elderly, employment of marginalised groups, and social inclusion of the Roma population.

    Witness support offices established in Travnik/Novi Travnik and Bihać

    Uniform approach to provision of support services to witnesses and victims in criminal proceedings is made available in cantonal courts in Novi Travnik and Bihać, as well as cantonal prosecutor´s offices in Una – Sana and Central Bosnia cantons through official opening of Witness Support Offices, established as part of UNDP Project ˝Introduction of victim and witness support services˝, begun on 12th September, 2013.

    Be on the Right Side – Choose Life without Weapons!

    The cantons of Sarajevo, Central Bosnia, Tuzla, Zenica-Doboj and Canton 10 have launched a campaign to collect illegal weapons and explosive ordnances “Choose Life without Weapons”. The campaign, which is already being implemented in Republika Srpska and Brčko District of BiH, aims to make the lives of citizens safer through surrender of illegal weapons.

    Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina chooses life without weapons

    The weapons collection campaign has been launched in Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Campaign is entitled “Choose Life Without Weapons”. It aims to sensitize population of Brcko District and throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina on negative aspects of illegal possession and use of weapons and to motivate individuals to surrender their illegal weapons.

    New Project for Sustainable Return and Development of Birač Region

    HE Jurriaan Kraak, Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands and Yuri Afanasiev, Resident Coordinator of United Nations signed the 2.1 million US dollars Agreement for the project, which will help create local partnerships for sustainable and socially inclusive development in the Birač Region. Since 2005, the Government of the Netherlands has provided over 22 million Euros in support of the Srebrenica Regional Recovery Project, implemented by UNDP in the municipalities of Srebrenica, Bratunac and Milići. The new Birač project, in a partnership with UNDP, UNICEF and UNHCR, will assist these three municipalities and Vlasenica and Zvornik in establishing multi-stakeholder coordination mechanisms to address joint development priorities.

    Fight Against Tuberculosis Continues

    United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Yuri Afanasiev and Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH Sredoje Novic signed the Project Document announcing the continuation of the fight against tuberculosis in BiH. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) funds the $6.9 million worth two-year phase of the project designated as "Strengthening the DOTS Strategy and Improving the National Tuberculosis Programme, including Multidrug Resistant and Infection Control, in Bosnia and Herzegovina". This project is being implemented by the UNDP.

    Choosing Life Without Weapons

    UNDP Resident Representative Yuri Afanasiev and Republic of Srpska Minister of Interior Radislav Jovičić announced the launch of the campaign “Choose Life Without Weapons“, aiming to collect illegally possessed small arms and light weapons. As of September 1st 2013, all citizens will be able to freely and without fear of sanctions hand over weapons and explosive devices.

    Continuation of support to partner Local Self-governance units within LOD III

    Within the third phase of the Project “Reinforcement of Local Democracy” implemented by UNDP BiH and financed by the European Union, a direct Public Call was published in the period from February 15th, 2013 to March 08th, 2013 for 29 local self – government units (LSUs) which had participated in previous project phases, to express their interest for partnership in LOD III. 23 LSUs responded to the Public Call. Large number of received LSUs applications reflected a huge interest among LSUs for further improvements in implementation of LOD Methodology.

    Municipal Projects to Address Priority Local Needs to Be Launched

    The Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP) completed the evaluation of project applications to be funded by the ILDP Seed Fund for Local Development. Financial support by the Seed Fund was made available on a competitive basis (via a Call-for-Proposals opened from 09 April until 31 May 2013), where the following ILDP partner municipalities were eligible to apply: Bosanska Krupa, Bosanski Petrovac, Bugojno, Bužim, Cazin, Doboj, Doboj Istok, Doboj Jug, Gračanica, Kostajnica, Kotor Varoš, Ljubinje, Maglaj, Odžak, Orašje, Osmaci, Prnjavor, Šamac, Srbac, Srebrenik, Trnovo, Zenica.

    Continued Support for the Prevention, Diagnostic and Treatment for People Living with AIDS until the end of 2015

    n 19th July 2013 the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has formally signed a two and a half year contract with 12 governmental and non-governmental partners (IOM, Public Health Institute FBiH, Public Health RS, Partnerships in Health, World Vision, UG Viktorija, PROI, Asocijacija Margina, AAA, Apoha, Poenta, and Asocijacija XY) in the amount of 12 million BAM. These funds will provide continued support for the prevention, diagnostic and treatment for people living with AIDS until the end of 2015, and the focus will be on the protection of the population at risk.

    UNDP Administrator Paid a Visit to Mostar

    UNDP Administrator and Chairwoman of the UN Development Group, Miss Helen Clark met with the Mayor of Mostar, Mr. Ljubo Bešlić who showed her the Old Bridge and the Old Town that are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and as such present the symbols of not only the Mostar City but also of the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They visited the Spanish Square, place which was once the borderline between parties in conflict and today it is the symbol of the united and healing community. The rehabilitation of the Spanish Square, high school and Pedestrian Street were financed by the UNDP and other UN agencies thanks to the support of MDG Fund and Spanish Government.

    UN House Inaugurated

    On 5th July 2013, the United Nations House was officially opened in Sarajevo. The UN House was inaugurated by Miss Helen Clark, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator and Chair of the UN Development Group and Mr. Bakir Izetbegović, Member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency. Numerous representatives of government institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, international organisations, and many ambassadors to Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the ceremony.

    Project EXPLODE to Enhance Safety of BiH People by Decreasing Ammunition and Weapons Surpluses

    Explosive ordnance and remnants of war destruction (EXPLODE) project was officially launched today in Doboj. The 3,837,830 EUR project that will run until 2015 is financed by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the OSCE Mission to BiH.
