    Workshop Held on Developing Logical Matrix and Budgets for Allocations within the Migration and Development Fund

    In the period from March, 19th to 21st 2014, a workshop was held in Sarajevo on “Developing Logical Matrix and Budgets for Allocations within the Migration and Development Fund”, within the UNDP’s Migration and Development Project, aimed at informing the representatives of local governments about potentials of migrants from BiH in relation to the development of their country, and the ways to utilise these potentials for the purposes of local development through preparation of projects with an emphasis on migration component.

    Financial Mechanism for Local Development Projects in RS Established

    Aiming to systematically address development needs of local governments in Republika Srpska,Zahira Virani, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Zoran Tegeltija, Minister of Finance of the Republika Srpska, Lejla Rešić, Minister of Administration and Local Self-Governance of Republika Srpska, Ms. Snežana Vujnić, Director of the Investment and Development Bank of Republika Srpska and Joseph Guntern, Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a financing mechanisms for local development in the RS.

    Program EDUS: Focusing on Abilities Towards Better Education

    Equality for Women is Progress for All

    United Nations throughout the world join celebration of the International Women’s Day recognizing that the “Equality for women is progress for all”. On this day the world celebrates the progress made for women’s rights, women’s empowerment and gender equality. UN Agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina also recognize that this progress has been slow, uneven, and that women and girls in Bosnia and Herzegovina and throughout the world face numerous challenges.

    Workshop on Provision of Support to Victim and Witnesses in Criminal Proceedings

    From 3rd to 4th March 2014, a workshop was held in Konjic entitled ˝Witness Support in Criminal Proceedings˝ within the framework of the UNDP´s Introduction of Victim/Witness Support Services Project in Brčko and Mostar, aimed at establishing witness support offices at these two locations as part of a wider initiative of setting up uniformed victim and witness support mechanisms throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    The project office of the United Nations in Canton 10 is officially opened today in Drvar. On this occasion, the Memorandum of Understanding on implementation of the project Applying the Human Security Concept to Stabilize Communities in Canton 10, funded by the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UN HSTF), was signed between UN agencies, Government and municipalities of the Canton 10.

    The Srebrenica Regional Recovery Programme Continued: US$ 5.2 Million for the Fourth Phase

    The presentation of the fourth phase of Srebrenica Regional Recovery Programme for Economic Development (SRRP), organized by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republika Srpska and the United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP) took place today in Banja Luka. The fourth phase is supported by the Government of Netherlands in the amount of US$ 4.4 million and co-financed by municipalities Bratunac, Srebrenica and Milići in the amount of US$ 800.000.

    Tariff in Water and Sanitation Services in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    There is a consensus in BiH that existing regulatory framework for water supply and wastewater services does not provide sufficient self-sustainability of these services. The majority of water utility companies claim that the approved price of these services does not ensure recovery of all corresponding costs; it also results in a deterioration of the network condition and a reduction of the service quality.

    Launch of Support to All 10 Cantons to Advance Their Strategic Planning and Strategies’ Implementation Capacities

    Initial steps towards paving the way for a harmonized approach to cantonal development planning were successfully accomplished by the Una-Sana and Western-Herzegovina cantons in the framework of the UNDP Integrated Local Development Project, financed by Swiss Government/SDC. These processes brought together local and cantonal governments in the participatory creation of the 2014 – 2020 cantonal strategies and generated sustainable administrative solutions for establishment of a development management system at the cantonal level.

    First Round of Illegally Possessed Arms Destroyed

    More than 1,500 pieces of small arms and light weapons collected countrywide within the “Choose Life without Weapons” campaign were destroyed today in Banja Luka. Illegally possessed weapons represent a significant problem for the safety of all citizens and for this reason Ministries of Interior Affairs have launched the campaign in cooperation with United Nations Development Programme, ICRC and OSCE Mission to BiH, with the financial support of the Government of the United Kingdom.
