United Nations delivered 90 tons of the most essential emergency items, equipment and supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina and is leading coordinated floods response of international community. In the first days of the floods UN agencies obtained 5.5 million USD and already delivered 3 million worth of aid, emergency items and supplies to 22 flood hit municipalities. UN OCHA, IOM, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNHCR, WHO and WFP provided food, water, medicines, water pumps, purifiers and generators for population in flooded areas, in close coordination with the state Ministry of Security, governments at all levels, Civilian Protection, local communities and NGOs countrywide.

Record flooding in the Balkans region in recent days could increase the risk of injuries and deaths from landmine accidents in Bosnia and Herzegovina, says the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and BH Mine Action Centre (BHMAC).

More than 1.5 million US dollars of assistance to flood affected areas has been secured by the UN agencies. The assistance includes food, medicines and hygiene kits, pumps, water tanks and filters, dehumidifiers, power generators, tents and sleeping bags.

International organisations and embassies extend their deepest sympathies to all those who have lost their loved ones and to the communities that have suffered unprecedented damage. Images and testimonies from the areas affected indicate the scale of the natural disaster, as well as the exceptional bravery and selflessness of all citizens and of the services that are making superhuman efforts to fight the floods and their devastating consequences. We are all humbled by the volunteer spirit of all the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina in helping each other in this time of need.

The United Nations Country Team in BiH has identified some $400,000 in financial assistance as an initial contribution to support BIH authorities and citizens to address humanitarian needs resulting from the unprecedented floods. In addition UN Agencies will contribute in kind assistance and supplies of food, pumps, warehousing and transport capabilities, humanitarian and school supplies and other materials.

Authors/researchers or teams of thereof are kindly invited to submit summaries of empirical research papers addressing migration issues in the context of social and economic development in Bosnia and Herzegovina or countries of the region (Montenegro, Croatia, FYROM and/or Serbia), to be presented at a research workshop on “Migration in Function of Development”, and published in the respective workshop proceedings.

On April 25th final presentation of the “Via Dinarica” project was organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Association of Adventure Tourism in BiH (ATA). The ceremony took place on Trebević Mountain and was attended by numerous participants and guests from BiH and neighbor countries.

Within the UNDP's project Reinforcement of Local Democracy III – LOD III funded by EU, a two-day Civil Society Organisations Conference on Provision of Services in Local Communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Sarajevo on April 16-17, 2014. Over 50 civil society organizations (CSO), working in the fields of social inclusion, persons with disabilities and employment, participated in the Conference.

Within the UNDP programme "Clean Vrbas," the Center for Climatic Research in Banja Luka recorded all locations on the river Vrbas and created a map documenting sources of pollution of the river. The aim of mapping pollution and developing a database of pollutants is to aid local authorities and citizens in the removal of illegal dumps and preventing spillage of waste water into the river Vrbas and improving environmental quality.

Within the UNDP’s Migration and Development Project, the first meeting of the Working Group on Migration and Development was held in Sarajevo on March, 24th and 25th, 2014. In this meeting, UNDP, in cooperation with representatives of seven national institutions, including the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and two institutions of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, five representatives of local governments, three non-governmental organisations, as well as the Swiss Cooperation Office of the Embassy of Switzerland and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), jointly discussed the recommendations on how to tap on the benefits of migration for development in BiH.

On the 04th of April, 2014 a roundtable conference was held in the premises of NGO „Eko element“ in Bugojno on the topic: „Possibilities and ways of cooperation between key actors of the local communities of river Vrbas basin with the purpose of sustainable management of water resources as the natural and economic resource of the region“. The event was attended by the representatives of nongovernmental and private sector and the municipal administration from the basin of river Vrbas.

Conference on strategic planning and implementation of development strategies in 40 BiH municipalities and cities was held yesterday in Sarajevo as part of the UNDP’s Integrated Local Development Planning Project (ILDP) activities. The conference’s main purpose was exchange of experiences, good practices and challenges that local communities face with when implementing their development priorities.

A Kick-Off Meeting on “Study on Improving Activities Related to the Acquisition, Management and Use of Resources of Environmental Funds in BiH” Held in Sarajevo
On the 25th of March, United Nations Development Programme organised a kick-off meeting in Sarajevo on the topic of “Study on improving activities related to the acquisition, management and use of resources of Environmental Funds in BiH”. In addition to the representatives of UNDP the meeting was attended by the representatives of the Environmental Fund of the Federation of BiH, Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska and the legal, financial and energy and environment experts. The study aims to give directions for further actions on financial mechanisms development and enforcement within the Funds.

A two–day coordination meeting for witness support providers was held in Sarajevo on 27th and 28th of March 2014. The meeting gathered ten (10) witness support officers, psychologists and social workers by vocation from courts, prosecutor´s offices and police structures in Brčko, Banja Luka, Mostar, Istočno Sarajevo, Bihać, Travnik, Novi Travnik and Doboj, who were presented with a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices from their daily dealings with victims and witnesses in criminal proceedings.

Workshop Held on Developing Logical Matrix and Budgets for Allocations within the Migration and Development Fund
In the period from March, 19th to 21st 2014, a workshop was held in Sarajevo on “Developing Logical Matrix and Budgets for Allocations within the Migration and Development Fund”, within the UNDP’s Migration and Development Project, aimed at informing the representatives of local governments about potentials of migrants from BiH in relation to the development of their country, and the ways to utilise these potentials for the purposes of local development through preparation of projects with an emphasis on migration component.

Aiming to systematically address development needs of local governments in Republika Srpska,Zahira Virani, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Zoran Tegeltija, Minister of Finance of the Republika Srpska, Lejla Rešić, Minister of Administration and Local Self-Governance of Republika Srpska, Ms. Snežana Vujnić, Director of the Investment and Development Bank of Republika Srpska and Joseph Guntern, Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a financing mechanisms for local development in the RS.

- Obnovljeno, energetski efikasno obdanište u Bosanskoj Krupi je danas svečano otvoreno, na radost više od 110 djece koji će predškolske dane provoditi u toplom i sigurnom prostoru.
