    Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Training

    Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adoption Training (with a CEDRIG component) organized by OSCE and Swiss Government is taking place from the 15th through the 17th of October 2014. The main objective of this Training is to define disaster and climate change, and identify how both of these factors affect today’s society. Training will focus not only on what can be done to reduce the negative impacts of natural events and climate change, but also on the need for a better coordination and cooperation amongst relevant regional and national actors.

    Municipality of Zepče awarded United Nations Development Program and European Union with Annual Award

    Municipal Council and Mayor of Municipality of Zepče handed Annual Award to United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and European Union (EU) yesterday, on October 14, 2014, with regard to the Day of Municipality. Annual Award is public recognition, handed to individuals or organizations, both local and international, for outstanding achievements and contributions to the development and reputation of Municipality of Zepče.

    Official start of the heating season in Doboj – central heating system reconstructed

    Doboj City Heating Plant officially started the heating season today on 15 October 2014, with official commissioning of the plant. Despite considerable damages to the Doboj Heating Plant in the May floods, thanks to the financial assistance of the Government of the Kingdom of Norway in the amount of BAM 979,294, more than 8,500 households, public institutions, as well as all Doboj kindergartens and schools, are now ready for the approaching cold weather. Reconstruction of the central heating system was implemented through the UN Floods Recovery Programme Today, For All of Us.

    TB Diagnostics Lab Opened

    Opened laboratory for the diagnosis of tuberculosis On Thursday, the 9th of October at the Institute of Public Health in Banja Luka, the reconstructed laboratory for the diagnosis of tuberculosis has been opened with support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, worth about a 1 million BAM.

    Post-flood rehabilitation of 29 priority houses completed under the EU Floods Recovery Programme

    The rehabilitation works on 29 priority houses financed by the EU Floods Recovery Programme have been completed under the first phase of the housing component. Thanks to EU financing, three families from Maglaj, eight families from both Doboj and Banja Luka and 10 families from the Bijeljina region can now return home.

    Volunteering to Build a Socialising Spot

    Two volunteer activities under the slogan I Volunteer for a Better Vučilovac were held on October, 9th and 10th, this year as a part of the project Reconstruction of the Vučilovac Youth Club, implemented by PRONI Centre for Youth Development and funded by the Kingdom of Norway and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The activity helps young construction workers reconstructing the Youth Club which was severely damaged during the floods, while helping the youth in Vučilovac to rehabilitate their club and ensure a socialising spot.

    New Facilities for Persons with Special Needs in Prijedor

    New facilities of the Day Care Centre for Persons with Special Needs were opened on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014, in Prijedor. Construction and furnishing of the 90m2 Centre was implemented as a part of the Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP). ILDP is a joint initiative of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). New premises were opened in cooperation with the City of Prijedor to be used by the Association of Parents of Children with Special Needs Neven, with the current membership of 324.

These explosions can threaten lives and cause serious damage to military infrastructure and the surrounding civilian areas. Continuous efforts and financial support is required to prevent such incidents. It has been assessed that it investment in UEMS post-disaster recovery costs five times more than the investment in its prevention.

    Drop by Drop – Vrbas the River of Life

    On 3rd and 04th of October, a documentary film titled "Drop by drop - Vrbas river of life" was shown in front of about 80 people, who had the opportunity to see the film in high school in Banja Luka and JU Centre for Culture and Sport in Srbac. The film was produced by the Centre for PET, as a part of the project Clean Vrbas. Government of Japan, Ekopak d.o.o, Coca-Cola and municipalities in the basin of the river Vrbas gave financial support to this project, while the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) played the main role in implementation process.

    Notice on the extention of deadline - Public call for flood recovery assistance aimed at reconstruction of flood affected housing units

    The European Union Floods Recovery Programme is planning to provide intervention assistance for reconstruction of housing units in flood affected areas. The assistance will include reconstruction of housing units in the municipalities of Bijeljina, Šamac, Doboj, Maglaj, Orašje, Odžak, Brčko District and Domaljevac.

    Thanks to the European Union assistance, the pupils of the primary school in Gomjenica, near Prijedor are in their new classrooms as of today

    Today, classes have started again in the reconstructed building of the branch school in Gomjenica, near Prijedor, ending the bus travel to the central school for 110 pupils in six classes, from grade one to grade five. The building, which suffered significant damage during the May floods, has been reconstructed as a part of the EU Floods Recovery Programme, financed by the European Union. The cost of the reconstruction was 138,500 BAM (70,850 EUR), and the works included replacement of doors, windows and floors, installation of new sanitary blocks, reconstruction of walls and the roof, as well as a new façade.

    460 small and medium-sized enterprises applied for EU Floods Recovery grants

    A total of 460 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) wishing to benefit from EU assistance in restoring their working capacities hit by the May 2014 floods have applied for grants under the EU Floods Recovery Programme. This financial support to SMEs is a part of the overall 42 million Euro EU commitment to assist the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in overcoming the effects of the floods.

    EU launches the first phase of post-floods housing rehabilitation under the Floods Recovery Programme

    Last week marked the beginning of rehabilitation works on 200 priority dwellings across the flood-affected areas in Bosnia Herzegovina financed by the EU Flood Recovery Programme, with works on additional 150 dwellings to follow next week. These works are due to be finalised within the next 45 days. The rest of 300 priority dwellings will be selected in the coming weeks, which brings the total number of households receiving priority rehabilitation support to 650.
