Nov 21, 2017

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH) and the Government of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBIH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to provide framework for formalization and strengthening cooperation. Within the scope of  Memorandum, cooperation is envisaged in the following six thematic areas: access to justice and human security; good governance; economic growth and job creation; environment protection, energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate risk management; social inclusion; recovery and reconstruction.

„ Over the past four years, projects in the value of more than 100 million BAM have been realized in the Federation of BiH. Thanks to these funds, more than 350 companies and more than 1000 beneficiaries have been helped and provided housing and subsistence for a population that was affected by the consequences of floods in 2014”, said Ms. Sezin Sinanoglu, Resident Representative of UNDP BiH and stressed: “Together we worked in various areas of management and economic development, energy efficiency and community development, tourism, mitigation of the effects of climate change, and we will continue to work in these sectors in the future. We hope that this cooperation will help the Government of the Federation of BiH to fulfill its obligations under the Reform Agenda, and even more is important to improve its readiness in the context of European integrations.“

“Every development must be carefully planned, in order to be sustainable. The experience and support of UNDP will be valuable in accomplishing all the goals of sustainable development that the Government of the FBiH has outlined. Beside financial, we need technical assistance from all the international communities as well as UNDP’s. It is basis of long-term cooperation, which transfers us knowledge we do not have in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, said Mr. Fadil Novalić, Prime Minister of FBIH.

In addition, the Memorandum specifically provides cooperation within the Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP), a joint project of the Government of Switzerland and UNDP in BiH. This refers to the support of the ILDP in establishing a functional development planning and management system in the FBiH, in line with the newly adopted FBiH Law on Development Planning and Management, and strengthening the capacity and role of the Federal Institute for Development Programming in the coordination of these processes.
