Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sezin Sinanoglu and the Director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska Srđan Todorović have signed the Agreement on continuation of cooperation for realisation of measures for increasing energy efficiency in the total amount of KM 2.7 million.

Resident Representative Sinanoglu stated that this was a second agreement that would be implemented by June 2018 and said that the UNDP would allocate around KM 1. million provided by the Government of Sweden.

"Within the first agreement, we have improved the energy efficiency measures in 20 public buildings in Republika Srpska, and the new agreement provides for work on another 10 buildings", said Sinanoglu. She added that the UNDP supports further work of the Fund through these activities and contributes to energy efficiency measures.
Energy efficiency programmes contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions as well as the reduction of air pollution and help public buildings, institutions and population to achieve  financial savings that can be used for other purposes.

Director of the Fund Todorović stated: "We have signed the cost-sharing agreement on the UNDP Project "Green Economic Development", and for the second year we have jointly financed these activities. The Fund will invest about KM 500,000 and UNDP and the Government of Sweden about KM 1 million. Last year alone we have completed 15 buildings in which more than KM six million was invested.  UNDP and the Fund jointly carry out the public tender to which all who manage public buildings can apply, including certain criteria and parameters to be fulfilled".

The Resident Representative highlighted the constructive relationship that the UNDP has with the Fund, as well as the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering and Ecology of RS, and expressed her wish for this productive cooperation to continue in the next year as well.

The „Green Economic Development” Project is implemented by the UNDP, with financial support from the Govenrment of Sweden, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund of Republika Srpska. The goal of the Project is to create a favourable environment for investments into energy efficiency programmes, increase the number of „green jobs“ and contribute to market development which will lead to economic development. During the past period, energy efficiency measures have been implemented on 86 buildings, which contributed to:

  • Creating over 800 „green jobs“
  • Financial savings in public budgets amounting to over KM 2,700,000 annually
  • Decreasing energy consumption and achievings savings over 50%
