The significant contributions by the Network of cantonal practitioners to the implementation of the creation of a strategic approach to Planning and Managing and the implementation of development projects in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), were highlighted on the three-day seminar in Orašje. The seminar was held with the participation of practitioners from all cantons in the Federation of BiH. The Network of cantonal practitioners is an initiative which launched by the Federal Institute for Development Programming and supported by the Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP). The fourth meeting of this network was held between 10 and 12 May 2017, and attended by representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Federation of BiH, the Federal Institute for Development Programming, prime ministers of Posavina and Bosnia-Podrinje Canton Goražde, and representatives of the Embassy of Switzerland to BiH and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in BiH.
"The aim of this conference is the exchange good practices, knowledge and experiences among cantonal practitioners, particularly in the areas of development of strategic documents and implementation of projects," said Aida Laković Hošo, the ILDP project manager.
Prime Minister of Posavina Canton, Marijan Klaić, stressed that the exchange of experiences among cantons will create a new vision for better and faster development, which should contribute to the realization of more effective development projects in the Federation of BiH. The representatives of nine cantons had an opportunity to visit the sites in the area of Orašje, where several development projects were successfully implemented, including a visit to a business zone Dusine and company Temax, and see the new Cultural and Sports Center Orašje as an example of the multi-partner project.
Within the scope of the seminar, a visit to Vukovar was organized where the members of the Network of cantonal practitioners had the opportunity to get acquainted with the development experience of Vukovar-Srijem County. Good experiences and lessons learned on strategic planning and the role of local development agencies were presented, as well as the role of counties in the EU accession processes and policies of support to the areas under the special care of the state. The hosts presented the examples of successful development projects and organized a visit to the Business Innovation Center BIC in Vukovar, which was financed through the EU grants from the European fund for regional development.
At the seminar, practitioners discussed the implementation of the Law on Development Planning and Management of development in the Federation of BiH, which was adopted in April this year. The moderator presented how this Law regulates the adoption of strategic documents and identification and implementation of development priorities at the federal and cantonal levels, and in municipalities and cities. At the end of the meeting, the process of development management in the cantons and the Federation of BiH was discussed, as well as the role of networks of practitioners in this process, and noted that all 10 cantons of the Federation adopted development strategies.
The Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP) is supported by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by UNDP BiH.
