Oct 15, 2014

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Anne Vibeke Lilloe starts the heating season in Doboj

Doboj City Heating Plant officially started the heating season today on 15 October 2014, with official commissioning of the plant. Despite considerable damages to the Doboj Heating Plant in the May floods, thanks to the financial assistance of the Government of the Kingdom of Norway in the amount of BAM 979,294, more than 8,500 households, public institutions, as well as all Doboj kindergartens and schools, are now ready for the approaching cold weather. Reconstruction of the central heating system was implemented through the UN Floods Recovery Programme Today, For All of Us.

The heating Plant in Doboj started its work with a press of a button and humming of machines. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, H.E. Anne Vibeke Lilloe said: "I am proud that Norway, together with UNDP, has helped citizens of Doboj to meet winter without fear and concerns how to heat their homes".
The Mayor of the City of Doboj, Obren Petrović expressed his satisfaction with this capital investment for Doboj. "We still have a lot of work ahead to recover from catastrophic floods with the help of Western countries. On behalf of all citizens, I thank the Kingdom of Norway for the assistance."

Head of the UNDP Banja Luka Regional Office, Goran Vukmir finds the reconstruction of the Heating Plant in Doboj a great success. "I am happy that together with the Kingdom of Norway we succeeded in finding a solution for one of the biggest problems in Doboj. All efforts of the UN, UNDP and the EU to reconstruct the city of Doboj would have faced a threat without the re-start in heating", said Vukmir.

With restored central heating system that provides for over 40,000 people in the urban area of Doboj, another significant step was made in floods recovery.
