Reconstructed Kindergarten in Bosanska Krupa – Building Better Conditions for a Happy Childhood

Reconstructed and energy efficient kindergarten in Bosanska Krupa was officially opened today, to the joy of more than 110 children who will spend their pre-school days in a warm and safe place. Thanks to the activities of two projects implemented by UNDP, with funding of the European Union and the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund and co-financing of local authorities, the entire building was renovated, with thermal insulation installed, new teaching materials secured for the youngest ones, and also conditions created for inclusion of marginalised and children with special needs.

On this occasion, the opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Construction, Urban Planning and Environmental Protection of the Una-Sana Canton Ms. Sinha Kurbegović, Mayor of Bosanska Krupa Mr. Armin Halitović and UNDP representatives.

“We are pleased to see the result of months-long joint effort that enabled a safe environment for all children and staff. It should be stressed that we ensured conditions for 15 Roma and children with special needs to be equally involved in the educational process with their peers,” said Mr. Dino Kabiljagić, UNDP Local Governance Advisor.

The total value of reconstruction project for the Public Institution Child Care Centre and Dorm in Bosanska Krupa is BAM 212,505, of which BAM 73,505 were provided by the European Union through the LOD project (30% of the funding for this project was provided by the Municipality of Bosanska Krupa), while the value of the GED project, implemented by the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund and UNDP was BAM 112,000 (of which BAM 20,000 was secured by the Ministry of Construction, Urban Planning and Environmental Protection of the Una-Sana Canton and BAM 7,000 by the Municipality of Bosanska Krupa).

The project of Green Economic Development is implemented by UNDP in close cooperation with the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund, so as to institutionalise the activities of energy management within public buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina, strengthening the capacities of the Fund and local institutions, creating a favourable environment for investment in energy efficiency, and strengthening financial mechanisms. In first two years of cooperation between the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund and UNDP, EUR 4.3 million had been invested.

Strengthening Local Democracy III (LOD III) is a project implemented by UNDP and funded by the European Union from the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) in the amount of EUR 2 million.

Local partners in the LOD project in Bosanska Krupa, who have implemented projects in the Public Institution Child Care Centre and Dorm in Bosanska Krupa are PLOD Centre Bihać and EKUS Bihać.

Now in its fourth phase, LOD project continues to strengthen local democratic processes through improved co-operation between civil society and local authorities.
