Launch of Eight Local Initiatives for Agricultural Development

The Migration and Development Project is launching the implementation of local development initiatives together with 8 municipalities and cities in BiH (Jajce, Ključ, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Velika Kladuša, Nevesinje, Posušje and Ljubuški). All the initiatives originate from the local development strategies which were adopted by the municipalities/cities at the turn of the year 2013/2014. They are jointly financed by the Migration and Development Project funds, municipalities, diaspora and other project partners such as cantonal governments and final beneficiaries.

The following local initiatives are selected for co-financing:

  1. Jajce: “Expanding plantations of berries“, total value BAM 96,441
  2. Ključ: “Improving cooperation with diaspora in development of agriculture”, total value BAM 66,120
  3. Posušje: “Establishment of Agricultural Cooperative and support to beekeeping and production of medicinal herbs“, total value: BAM 46,602
  4. Prijedor: “Agricultural mechanization for returnee agricultural producers“, total value BAM 71,691
  5. Sanski Most: “Development and implementation of professional retraining programme in metal sector with mentorship from the diaspora“, total value BAM 57,924
  6. Velika Kladuša: “Improving cooperation with diaspora in development of agriculture“, total value BAM 69,635
  7. Ljubuški: “Agricultural product branding and training for agricultural producers in cooperation with diaspora“, total value BAM 55,800
  8. Nevesinje: “Establishment of a textile micro enterprise in cooperation with diaspora “, total value BAM 64,964
The total value of the approved initiatives amounts to BAM 561,578, where the Migration and Development Project provides BAM 357,429, municipalities and cities provide BAM 90,555, diaspora provides BAM 106.078, while 7.517 BAM is provided from other sources (private or other donor sources). Additionally, the Migration and Development Project will support the implementation of local development interventions in Laktaši and Maglaj.

The Migration and Development Project is a joint initiative of the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and UNDP, implemented in partnership with ten local governments. The main goal of the Project is to contribute to the establishment of the favourable environment for migrants who are willing to proactively support and promote development of BiH.
