The Brčko District Government and the Office of Mayor of the Brčko District are hosts of the first consultative meeting on the theme of truth-telling and memorialisation in the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The meeting is organised in cooperation with and through support of United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH). The meeting was held in Grand Hotel “Posavina“ in the period from 12-13 February 2013.

The goal of the consultative meeting is to discuss needs and ideas of the government institutions and civil society in the Brčko District in the area of truth-telling and memorialisation, in order to launch civil dialogue on the legacy of 1992-1995 conflict, and develop appropriate response to such legacy.

This consultative forum is the first out of three consultative forums to be held until the end of March 2013. The forums should result in defined standards and criteria for the processes of memorialisation and truth-telling in the Brcko District, as well as developed action plan in the area of memorialisation and truth-telling that responds to specific needs of the local community.

Memorandum of Understanding between the UNDP and the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina was signed at the consultative meeting. The MoU represents a framework for implementation of the pilot project in the area of transitional justice, and, as such, it formalises aforenoted consultation process.

UNDP support to aforenoted activities is part of long-term expert and financial support to promoting the goals of transitional justice and implementing activities that contribute to developing transitional justice instruments tailored to specific context of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
