    Opening of the Šetnica Walk Trail in Mostar

    The official opening of Nikola Šubić Zrinjski street, also known as Šetnica, which spreads from Spanish Square to Square hrvatskih velikana, was held today in Mostar. The ceremony was attended by Ljubo Bešlić, Mayor of Mostar, Yuri Afanasiev, UN Resident Coordinator, H. E. Aurora Meija, Spanish Ambassador, and Enver Bijedić, Federal Minister of Transport and Communications.

    Local Development Led by Local Communities ILDP trainings

Answers, skills and good practices in this area were offered to 39 community representatives from localities all around Bosnia and Herzegovina during two 3-day trainings that were held in Konjic from 08-10th of May 2013 and from 13-15th of May 2013 in Laktasi.

    UNDP Supports the BiH Federation Environment Fund

    The first Cost-sharing Agreement (CSA) signing ceremony between the BiH Federation Environment Fund and UNDP BiH was held in Sarajevo on 4th June 2013 in the UN building. Mr. Yuri Afanasiev, UNDP Resident Representative, and Mr. Safet Harbinja, Director of the BiH Federation Environment Fund, addressed the media.

    The Signing Ceremony of MoU between UNDP and Local Government Partners

    The Signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between 4 partner local self governance units in BiH and UNDP BiH was held in Sarajevo on 31st May 2013, in the building of the Delegation of European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Ceremony was attended by Holger Schroeder, Head of Operations of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, Zahira Virani, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP BiH, Srđan Radulj, Deputy Minister of Justice of BiH and Mayors of elected municipalities and cities.

    Biodiversity protection in Livanjsko polje

    The final conference of the project “Mainstreaming Karst Peatland Rehabilitation concerns into key economic sectors" – KARST project, at which the results and achievements of the project were presented, was held in UN House on Tuesday May 28 2013. The conference was addressed by the UNDP Energy and Environment Sector Leader, Mr. Sanjin Avdic and the Head of the Department of Environmental Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina and National focal point of GEF for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Senad Oprašić.

    Clean Vrbas Charter Signed

    Entity and cantonal ministers, mayors and representatives of 13 municipalities of the Vrbas river basin, representatives of environmental funds and agencies, as well as donors, signed the Charter on Clean Vrbas thus marking the official beginning of the „Vrbas River Basin Environment Protection and Tourism Development Programme“.

    Better Planning Systems in BiH Entities

    Policy discussions related to harmonization of the development planning systems in both entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) that were launched in late 2012 with the support of the Integrated Local Development Project gained speed and came to concrete results. In the past months, representatives from more than 50 institutions engaged in consultative discussions and agreed on the vision, key elements, institutional responsibilities and coordination mechanisms in the future consolidated strategic planning frameworks in each BiH entity.

    Food control In Line With the EU Standards

    “Clean Vrbas” Programme Begins

    UNDP’s “Clean Vrbas” programme officially started with the Kotor Varos town spring cleaning on Sunday, 14th of April 2013. UNDP provided cleaning equipment and materials: gloves, thrash bags, shovels and rakes for participants at several locations in the Kotor Varos town, halping them make it one of the cleanest and most decorated cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. UNDP implements “Clean Vrbas” programme with the financial support of Government of Japan and “Coca Cola” company.

    Lend Your Leg Campaign Ends

    Bosnia and Herzegovina without new landmine victims“ is the main message of the Day Against Mines, marked today at UN House in Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina still remains one of the most mine contaminated countries in South East Europe with more than 14,000 mine locations. To date, there were 8,068 landmine victims in country. Portraits of 15 victims and their families are displayed in the UN House as a harsh reminder of the danger that is still present.

    Collection and Destruction of Illicit Weapons in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    There are large quantities of illicit weapons in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Those are threats to human security on the daily basis and are threats to regional stability. In order to address these risks a consultative meeting was held between the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska, the Ministry of Interior of Canton Sarajevo, the Ministry of Interior of Central Bosnia Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Zenica Doboj Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Bosnian Podrinje Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Canton 10, the Ministry of Interior of West Hercegovina Canton, the Ministry of Interior of Hercegovina Neretva Canton and the Police of Brcko District BiH as well as representatives of the international community. The meeting was organized by United Nations Development Programme.

    New Projects in Old Town Sarajevo Municipality

    Signing ceremony with civil society organizations for the implementation of activities in the territory of the Municipality of Old Town Sarajevo was organized on 27th March 2013, within framework of third phase of the UNDP Project Strengthening Local Democracy (LOD III), which is being implemented in 11 partner municipalities, organized. On that occasion, the guests were addressed by Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, municipal Mayor, Natalia Dianiskova, Head of Section for Operations, Social Development, Civil society and Cross-border cooperation of the EU Delegation in BiH, and Adela Pozder-Čengić, chief of the Division for Rural and Regional Development UNDP BiH.
