    Launch of Eight Local Initiatives for Development

    The Migration and Development Project is launching the implementation of local development initiatives together with 8 municipalities and cities in BiH (Jajce, Ključ, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Velika Kladuša, Nevesinje, Posušje and Ljubuški). All the initiatives originate from the local development strategies which were adopted by the municipalities/cities at the turn of the year 2013/2014. They are jointly financed by the Migration and Development Project funds, municipalities, diaspora and other project partners such as cantonal governments and final beneficiaries.

    EU Supports Flood Recovery Efforts

    Zahira Virani, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Deputy Resident Representative, continues with her visits to municipalities and cities that had suffered severe damages in floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina this spring. In her two-day official visit on August, 13th and 14th, Ms. Virani will visit Banja Luka, Doboj and Maglaj, meet with government representatives and sign a memorandum of understanding on continued cooperation and joint work on mitigating the consequences of catastrophic floods.

    International Youth Day 2014: Helping young people after floods

    A new publication from the United Nations shows that 20 per cent of the world’s young people experience a mental health condition each year. The risks are especially great as they transition from childhood to adulthood. Stigma and shame often compound the problem, preventing them from seeking the support they need. For this year’s observance of International Youth Day, the United Nations wants to help lift the veil that keeps young people locked in a chamber of isolation and silence.

    Summer Camps for Youth from the Flood Affected Areas

    Over 350 high-school students from ten BiH municipalities and towns that suffered the most during the May floods, in the period of 07-18 August 2014, will have an opportunity to take part in one of nine youth summer camps. The summer camps will be organized in four locations: Una, National park Kozara, Blagaj and Jahorina.

    Zahira Virani, UNDP DRR in BiH visit to flooded areas and municipalities to which UNDP provides local development support

    On Thursday, July 31st, first day of the official three-day visit to flooded areas and municipalities to which UNDP provides help in the development of capacities and improvement of life conditions for BiH citizens, Zahira Virani, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in BiH will visit Bihać. In Bihać the official agreements on continuation of work, worth 1.68 million BAM, will be signed with the director of the Cantonal Hospital, Hajrudin Havić, having the majority of the funds provided by the Cantonal Hospital.

    New Development Projects Within ILDP

    Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP) together with 17 municipalities and cities across BiH (Bihać, Gradačac, Jablanica, Jajce, Ključ, Laktaši, Livno, Ljubuški, Lopare, Mrkonjić Grad, Nevesinje, Novo Sarajevo, Posušje, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Velika Kladuša, Vlasenica) is launching implementation of development projects. All projects originate from development strategies that have been developed last year as part of the ILDP’s support to the process of strategic planning at local level. The projects are jointly financed between the ILDP’s Seed Fund for Local Development and municipal/city administrations.

The event was attended by: Srebrenka Golić, Minister of Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering and Ecology of Republic of Srpska, the mayors and representatives of 13 municipalities in the RS and FBiH belonging regions of Vrbas River basin, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and numerous local experts in various fields.

    Flooded Areas Provided with Disinfection, Insect and Rodent Control Agents

    Following the floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina in May, mosquitoes and rodents are still a potential risk for human health in some areas. In order to help the residents of these areas, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) provided public health institutes across Bosnia and Herzegovina with disinfection, insect and rodent control agents in the value of 240,000 US dollars. This contribution was funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway and USAID, and is implemented in cooperation with all the responsible ministries BiH.

    6,000,000th Piece of Ammunition Destroyed

    The spread of small arms and light weapons continues to affect the security of the Western Balkans. To curb the proliferation of illicit small arms, UNDP/SEESAC has been working to support stakeholders at all levels in the region since 2002. As part of this effort, this year SEESAC coordinated a region-wide small arms destruction event on July 9, 2014, with partners in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

    Launch of Consultations on ''Culture for Development'' in the Post-2015 Global Development Agenda

    Bosnia and Herzegovina has been selected by the United Nations Development Group (UNDP) for the continuation of the second round of consultations focusing on six topics as part of the global and thematic consultations on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. The United Nations Organisation for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have been appointed leading agencies in charge of consultations on culture and development that were officially launched today in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the UN House in Sarajevo. The goal of consultations is to enable different actors to present their vision of culture, its integration in the Post-2015 Global Development Agenda, based on human rights and in the context of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to present possibilities for the implementation of this agenda. Upon completion of consultations, participants will adopt a series of conclusions and recommendations for follow-up activities.
