    Official start of the heating season in Doboj – central heating system reconstructed

    Doboj City Heating Plant officially started the heating season today on 15 October 2014, with official commissioning of the plant. Despite considerable damages to the Doboj Heating Plant in the May floods, thanks to the financial assistance of the Government of the Kingdom of Norway in the amount of BAM 979,294, more than 8,500 households, public institutions, as well as all Doboj kindergartens and schools, are now ready for the approaching cold weather. Reconstruction of the central heating system was implemented through the UN Floods Recovery Programme Today, For All of Us.

    UNDP Plans and Activities for 2015 – 2019 Presented to the RS Government Representatives

    The five-year plan of activities and key focus areas of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) were presented to representatives of the RS Government’s ministries and agencies by Ms. Zahira Virani, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Goran Vukmir, Head of the UNDP Regional Office in Banja Luka and UNDP Sector Leaders, in coordination with the RS Ministry of Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation.

    Flooded Areas Provided with Disinfection, Insect and Rodent Control Agents

    Following the floods that hit Bosnia and Herzegovina in May, mosquitoes and rodents are still a potential risk for human health in some areas. In order to help the residents of these areas, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) provided public health institutes across Bosnia and Herzegovina with disinfection, insect and rodent control agents in the value of 240,000 US dollars. This contribution was funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway and USAID, and is implemented in cooperation with all the responsible ministries BiH.

    6,000,000th Piece of Ammunition Destroyed

    The spread of small arms and light weapons continues to affect the security of the Western Balkans. To curb the proliferation of illicit small arms, UNDP/SEESAC has been working to support stakeholders at all levels in the region since 2002. As part of this effort, this year SEESAC coordinated a region-wide small arms destruction event on July 9, 2014, with partners in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

    EU Funds the Melt Down of Additional 1,200 Pieces of Weapons

    Bosnia and Herzegovina, 30 June 2014 During the weekend, over 1,200 pieces of weapons, collected across Bosnia and Herzegovina, were melted down in the steel mill Jelsingrad, Banja Luka which will add to around 6,000 pieces of weapons destroyed this year.

    Choose Life Without Weapons: Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina meet both on and off the pitch

    Yesterday marked the start of Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s campaigns to win football’s biggest trophy as both countries faced each other in their opening FIFA World Cup match at Rio de Janeiro's legendary Maracanã stadium.     There is a consensus in BiH that existing regulatory framework for water supply and wastewater services does not provide sufficient self-sustainability of these services. The majority of water utility companies claim that the approved price of these services does not ensure recovery of all corresponding costs; it also results in a deterioration of the network condition and a reduction of the service quality.

    OSCE and UNDP Work on Strengthening Co-operation in Supporting Arms and Ammunition Stockpile Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina

    First Round of Illegally Possessed Arms Destroyed

    More than 1,500 pieces of small arms and light weapons collected countrywide within the “Choose Life without Weapons” campaign were destroyed today in Banja Luka. Illegally possessed weapons represent a significant problem for the safety of all citizens and for this reason Ministries of Interior Affairs have launched the campaign in cooperation with United Nations Development Programme, ICRC and OSCE Mission to BiH, with the financial support of the Government of the United Kingdom.

    Members of BiH Parliamentary Assembly on Study Visit to German Parliament
