  • Apr 20, 2011Facing the Past and Access to JusticeAt the outset of the development of the Strategy, UNDP made a report on the survey in order to contribute to this important process. The indicators used in this survey will be monitored and measured also at the end of the process, not only to show the progress made but also to define following activities to be taken in the same area. The survey shows interesting results, especially those regarding the strategy development. The initiative to develop the overall plan which would include the issues related to facing the past, i.e. the strategy for transitional justice, in which the authorities and civil society would be equally included, was supported by the vast majority of those polled. This result is closely related to the reality in which we live – which was also confirmed by the survey results – which is that most people in BiH continue to believe that the events from the war are extremely important and are willing to deepen the discussion about that issue. Also, the survey confirms the general opinion that victims of the war are neglected by the society and that there is little understanding for them. Finally, the survey shows that there is a general lack of confidence in the BiH judiciary and also that the majority of respondents, regardless of the entity they come from, support the establishment of the BiH Supreme Court.
