    Bosnia and Herzegovina has rich forest resources, both from the aspect of distribution and biodiversity, with a significant share of its territory covered by forests. BiH has the highest forest share as well as the highest level of diversity in terms of forest types among the countries of the Western Balkans.2 Forest resources are the basis of the local economy in many rural communities and often form the only source of income.

    Within the framework of the BiH Biomass Energy for Employment and Energy Security – Biomass project, UNDP has published a study on Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Biomass Energy Sector – with a Special Focus on Srebrenica Region. This study is the result of an attempt to summarize technical information regarding biomass energy baseline emissions and a cost-benefit analysis of the biomass energy sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a special focus on the Srebrenica region.

    The Initial National Communication (INC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has been adopted by the BiH Council of Ministers and entity governments and submitted to the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn. In accordance with the guidelines of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which was signed by Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2000, the UNDP CO in BiH, organised, with the financial support of GEF, the selection of an expert team and 50 local experts from 14 relevant fields, who participated in the preparation of the Initial National Communication of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a professional way and in line with the international standards. Each UNFCCC signatory state has an obligation to submit its national reports to the UNFCCC Secretariat.

    The Second National Communication (SNC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has been adopted by the BiH Council of Ministers and entity governments and submitted to the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn. United Nations Development Programme with GEF financial support and in partnership with the UNFCCC focal point for Bosnia and Herzegovina, RS Ministry for Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering and Ecology successfully completed the BiH Second National Communications on Climate Changes.

Thus the Diamond Lake located in the remote part of Argentina may help scientist to reach the conclusion how did the life on Earth start, and how could organisms live on other planets. Researches resulted in the millions of «superbacteria» in the Diamond Lake, located amidst an enormous volcano crater at around 4,650 metres above sea level, and able to survive at extremely low oxygen levels.
