  • Capacity Needs Assessment for Enhancing Provision of Victim/Witness support During the Pre-investigative Stage of Criminal Proceedings in BiHJan 27, 2014
    With the enactment of the Law on Protection of Witnesses under Threat and Vulnerable Witnesses a framework was established to provide certain protections to victims/witnesses in criminal cases. This act in addition to various protective measures provides for support to be given to witnesses, when required. Additionally, in 2004 the Law on Witness Protection Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was enacted.

  • Bulletin No.1-Reinforcement of Local Democracy IIIJan 16, 2013
    We present the first issue of LOD III bulletin. The bulletin has been prepared with aim to relay information on results and achievements of projects implemented by Civil Society Organizations(CSO) that are active throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina within LOD III project. Reinforcement of Local Democracy III (LOD III) is a project funded by the European Union (EU) through the funds of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) in the amount of 2,000,000 EUR and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNDP BiH).

    Within its ´Support to Processing of War Crimes Cases in BiH´ Project, the United Nations Development Programme BiH (UNDP BiH), financed by the Government of Spain, in partnership with the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC BiH) produced a Report:

    The Strategy is a comprehensive document that aims to enhance efficiency of all stakeholders in the area of SALW control in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The document particularly focuses on bringing the legislations in line with international standards, improving control over internal and external trade in weapons, decreasing the rate of incidents involving illegal weapons and as well as the numbers of illegal weapons owned by the population, boosting of citizens’ confidence in BiH bodies at all levels, and reducing surplus SALW in the possession of BiH Ministry of Defence. By implementing the set strategic objectives, as well as by building on the international and regional cooperation in this field, Bosnia and Herzegovina contributes not only to advancing of general security locally, but also regionally and globally.

    With this publication, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as the lead agency dealing with Transitional Justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina, launches a new series of documents and outreach activities related to transitional justice, its processes, mechanisms and the effective tools available to government authorities and civil society to assist in their efforts to address the country’s violent past.

OUR WORK - JUSTICE AND SECURITY

The activities of the Justice and Security Sector are designed to ensure the efficient performance of judicial institutions, access to and delivery of justice, and improved human security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Sector aims to improve the capacities of BiH cantonal/district judicial/prosecutorial institutions and building safer communities, which includes judicial, law enforcement, and human rights services; supporting BiH citizens, primarily victims, witnesses and vulnerable groups; and reducing the risks and threats posed by natural disasters and negative consequences of war, such as weapons, ordnance and mines.
